Chengdu Nongyuan International Art Village & NY20+
Chengdu Nongyuan International Art Village is located in Chengdu, the cultural capital of Southwest China, and stands at the core of the city’s key cultural development zone. As an important component of Chengdu’s “Heart Cultural District,” the Art Village functions as a major cultural platform integrating contemporary art creation, international artist residency programs, exhibitions, academic exchange, and public engagement. It plays a vital role in Chengdu’s cultural and creative ecosystem by providing an open, experimental, and dynamic environment for artistic dialogue and cross-cultural collaboration.

The Art Village features flexible and professional exhibition and working spaces designed to accommodate a wide spectrum of contemporary artistic practices. Its spatial infrastructure supports creation, presentation, research, and public interaction, enabling artists, curators, scholars, and audiences to connect through diverse forms of contemporary art. The site is functionally organized into three primary zones—Area A, Area B, and Area C—dedicated respectively to exhibitions and residency programs, artist studios and creative production, and public-oriented programs and large-scale interactive events. This clear functional structure allows for both professional specialization and flexible use, supporting everything from focused studio practice to major public art festivals.

As an important carrier of cultural innovation in Chengdu, the Art Village regularly hosts significant domestic and international exhibitions, academic forums, workshops, and cultural exchange initiatives. By integrating local cultural and tourism resources with global artistic networks, it actively contributes to the development of an open, diverse, and sustainable contemporary art ecology, reinforcing Chengdu’s position as a vibrant international center for contemporary art and cultural exchange.

Within this ecosystem, NY20+ operates as an international art promotion organization supported by Nongyuan Culture. Based in Chengdu, Sichuan, NY20+ is dedicated to international art and cultural exchange, overseas art projects, and long-term institutional collaboration. The Nongyuan cultural complex comprises three themed art zones with a total area of approximately 150,000 square meters, providing a substantial physical foundation for large-scale artistic and cultural activities.

Relying primarily on Zone A and Zone B, NY20+ develops and operates a range of programs including international artist residency initiatives, exhibition planning, school–enterprise cooperation, nonprofit art platforms, and interdisciplinary research projects. These programs aim to strengthen interaction and collaboration among art institutions, universities, artists, designers, art educators, students, and art enthusiasts from different countries and regions, promoting cultural exchange, dialogue, and sustainable artistic development.

The Artist Residency Program, launched in 2008, focuses on research, experimentation, creation, communication, and public presentation rooted in Bashu cultural characteristics. Drawing on Nongyuan’s large-scale Art & Nature Ecology and a community of more than 200 Chengdu-based artists, the program has continuously expanded into a diverse, interactive, and long-term international residency platform. NY20+ has also initiated projects such as the UPCYCLE ART FESTIVAL, MOS, and other experimental art initiatives, fostering an “international art tribe” where diverse artistic languages and cultural perspectives can coexist, collide, and flourish.

Through exhibitions, art festivals, residencies, public education programs, and international collaborations, Chengdu Nongyuan International Art Village and NY20+ together form a comprehensive and forward-looking platform for contemporary art practice and cultural exchange.
